Arachne and I walked into central Oxford to the Ashmolean to see the Young Rembrandt exhibition, she for the second time. Our tickets coincided with the day that a “new” painting was being added to the exhibition so Arachne galloped ahead to look at that first while I plodded round the exhibition taking it all in in more-or-less the order in which it was presented.
Marvellous!
On our way back we walked past the front of Magdalen college where the gates were open because of some stone restoration work taking place there. Amazingly the stone-mason happened to pass across our view behind the open gates and he and Arachne recognised one another immediately. And so it was that we were invited in to look at some old, some new, and some in need of replacement.
I was particularly fond of this cat, visible only from within the college gates, but just prior to our invitation I had already bagged these other two characters from the publicly visible wall outside.
