"Such is Life"

By the side of highways in Australia, one frequently encounters makeshift memorials, most often to people who have died in vehicle accidents at the locations in question.

I came across this roadside memorial completely by chance. I actually got out of the car to shoot something else entirely. I claim no knowledge of Peter Wright or the sad circumstances of his premature death. I DO know (however) that "such is life" are reputed to have been Ned Kelly's last words, immediately prior to his hanging, back in 1880.

I am left to speculate on the reason for Peter being remembered with a replica of Ned Kelly's Glenrowan helmet or the appearance of this famous quote on the plaque. In any event, may he rest in peace.
