Phallus Impudicus
To avoid the crowds, we headed over to St Begas at Bassenthwaite With A & C today. It was pretty quiet and we had a great short walk.
Walking through the woods near Mirehouse I smelt ... well before I could see ... this Phallys Impudicus (Stinkhorn). It gives off the smell of rotting flesh to attract flies in order to transfer the spores.
Getting close enough to photograph it was a particularly smelly affair, but the smell didn't seem to be putting off the two slugs that were munching away on it!
