Mountain Leader Training, Day 6
Exped day 3.
A cold night but a good sleep.
Woke early enough to catch the first light hitting Crinkle Crags.
We'd had a good long play with ropes the previous evening and then done more night nav games as it went dark. With Alice having left I was the only instructor, so I got to stand still and watch pairs of head torches make increasingly complex patterns in the dark dark night. The youngsters loved it and everyone reported a great improvement in their pacing and bearing accuracy. I just got really cold lol.
Most people seemed quite tired when they woke, but that's part of it, knowing you can go again, finding out why the instructor has a down filled air mattress (380g), understanding the need for calories and rest. Not many providers do a second night on the hill, but I think it makes a huge difference. Anyone can survive a single night, but knowing there's a second or more adds focus. It makes you consider your kit, it makes you efficient with it and it let's you know that you can keep going. Especially if its been a little grim at times.
We broke camp and made our way back to the road and then down to base. Then the most important part of the course, making development plans and setting goals to achieve them.
I hope I'll see them all back soon, every one of them has the potential to be a great ML.
