Still Life

Although it has no red legs visible here, I do know it is a Red-legged Partridge! Colourful and cute but rarely seen as close up as I did today.

Found on cultivated farmland mostly, very gregarious and often in flocks. All it's little friends had run off and the pheasant which I had spotted whilst driving home and thought good for a blip, ran off as soon as the car window went down. This little chap decided to stay put and tough it out, staying quite still, flattened skulking into the grassy field. He really stood out in the snow because of his colourful plumage which at first I though was a bit of stone at the distance I was. It was only having taken the shot and checked it out in camera that it became obvious it was a bird!
