A jobs day

A bit mean of me not to share a photo of Jon, doing one of the many jobs he carried out at mum and dads today. I will add some in the extras, but as I'd shared them on facebook as the day went on, I didn't want to repeat. I picked some apples from the amazing tree that just keeps on giving. So I have a bag full to bring home, that will be without bruises.

Jon was the hero of the day though. He began by fixing a gate. The post needed to be taken off and moved. Then he changed the taps, as the bath has been without a working cold tap all year. So mid morning, with 2 jobs down, we began on the tree at the front. It has grown into a monster over the last 50 years. Jon cut and I dragged the branches to the trailer. The trailer full, we then had to pile the remaining branches in the front garden, to collect at a later date. It doesn't look pretty, but is now half the size. We will cut more off later in the year.

The trailer, however, wasn't happy with the weight and one tyre gave out, with a second flattening too. Jon took off the two wheels, and tried to find a tyre supplier that was open. However, being trailer tyres, they are not standard and noone had any. Not great news. He will try a couple more places tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, I cleaned the lampshades on the landing, changed a bulb and put some proper polish on the wooden landing floor. A very satisfying job, as the wood parquet now looks lovely and glossy.

Late afternoon we went to see Jenny for a cup of tea, and a catch up with Gemma, Laura and Martin who were all there to celebrate Jenny's birthday with her on Monday. It has been a long time since we last saw Martin, and we had a nice chat.

Back to mums, put a curry in the microwave and watched the excellent film Sully.

A productive weekend. Just got to hope we can get home tomorrow ok with our heavily laden trailer.
