The Metropolitan Transit System in San Diego is lacking in many respects, but it does offer easy access to the U.S./Mexico border. We utilized the blue line trolley today, after dropping off our rental car, to get from downtown to the San Ysidro pedestrian border crossing in about a half hour. Very easy! Our trip north was almost as easy. We crossed the border back into the United States, which on five days ago had wait times of up to ten hours, in six minutes. Once back in Mexico, however, our plan to rely on public transit came to an end. Our apartment is simply too far from habitation and the bus service too limited to go without a car. The VW we rented from an agency near the pedestrian crossing will go a long way to making our stay more enjoyable (and should lead to a larger variety of photos over the next two weeks).
