Must be a Bank Holiday Weekend

A truly awful day for a bank holiday weekend in November August: cold (13C), rained all day, and with a strong Northerly wind it felt much colder. I managed to get over to a craft fair at Creake Abbey this morning, arriving half an hour before the official start time and whizzed round before the heavy rain started. I bought a couple of presents, an ornament for the garden, some cards and an apple pie (last one influenced by the weather and eaten hot on my return with custard!). Then I watched the wonderful The Book Thief this afternoon and did a bit of my jigsaw.

One incorrect item was delivered in my Sainsbury's order so I went on their website to fill in their online refund form. It's been removed, so the only options were contacting them by phone, facebook or twitter, so for me that's phone. They cancelled the call as no-one was available to answer it!!!

Day 167 / Full Day 159 of Lockdown / Day 57 of Step 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 12 to 41,498 (revised basis), with new daily cases up by 1,108 and 764 patients in hospital. Globally cases pass 25m, still up 1m in 4 days. About 18k people marched in Berlin in protest at coronavirus restrictions, despite rates increasing. A leaked SAGE report gives a 'reasonable worst case scenario' of 85,000 deaths in the UK due to Covid-19 this winter. The Govt published new Covid-19 guidelines last night for schools, including 4 tiers of action depending on the severity of the virus, with only tier 4 applying to primary schools. It is later than it could have been issued, but the virus is changing and WHO guidance is changing accordingly and in line with our improved understanding. Teachers unions are up in arms again, a week earlier would have been useful but the actions were already flagged and pretty much common sense (normal with masks as previously reported, rotas for attendance, secondary pupils learn from home, remote learning for all (bar vulnerable and children of key workers). The Notting Hill carvinal is now on - but online this year.
