Bialystok
I travelled with K. to Bialystok from Warsaw. With a computer guardian angel saying slow down every so often, we still arrived in Bialystok in good time for me to catch the slow train to Suwalki. The road is in the main part quite good these days, although there is at least one stretch still to be revamped.
There is some impasse with road building in Poland at the moment, but I hope they can continue the work before long. Part of the problem is with public tendering. Authorities tend to take the lowest offer, which sometimes means that a company wins the job but can't do it...monkeys and peanuts. The dark arts of negotiation are taken for granted in the U.K. perhaps.
This spire is probably one of the tallest on the Bialystok skyline and just as I started posting my rare shot of a cathedral I heard that the pope has resigned. That is a coincidence, but the repercussions of installing a new pope won't be without significance here. Bialystok also has a very large Orthodox Cathedral which I'll maybe blip in the future. It looks like I'm going to be repeating this journey more frequently.
I have enjoyed my weekend away. Thanks to K. and E. for their hospitality.
