Sunshine on a Rainy Day
Alan had a day off work today and wanted to go to the camping shop to look for some new folding chairs, so we packed a picnic to have in Bertie while we were out. We drove to Robertsbridge where the shop is, but their stock levels were really low and they hardly had anything, and only had one of the chairs we liked, so we didn't bother. We came away with 6 tent pegs and some anti-slip matting which must have been their biggest sale of the day at £3.50!
From there, we decided to go to Bewl Water which is a reservoir/recreation lake on what was once the Bewl Valley. Apparently a number of buildings were demolished including a farm, church and hamlet and then the valley was flooded to create the reservoir - their remains can be seen when the water levels are really low. As we arrived the heavens opened and it started thundering, but we had planned to have our lunch in Bertie so it was fine. We waited until the rain stopped and then went for a walk around the reservoir - the sky was threatening through so we took the brolly with us, and when the sun came out it made for a great photo opportunity with Alan as the model :-) I like how the yacht sails are colour co-ordinated with the umbrella.
We walked over to the other side of the reservoir and into the woods, but it's a 13 mile walk around the water and as it was late in the day we said we'll go back another time. There's a camp side there, so we may well give it try some time. It started to rain again as we were walking back, but we didn't get too wet and headed home to a home made curry..
