'Swell's up and I am hell keen to get pitted'

Said a surfer to his mate as he finished rubbing the suncream into his face. With his board under his arm, he checked the waves one last time before paddling out into the line-up for his Quarter Final in the Burleigh Breaka Pro. The warm water, near cloudless sky and cool onshore breeze combined in spectacular form, resulting in a near perfect Gold Coast day.

He turned around and looked up at the marquee built upon the rocks in prime view of the waves. He noticed a substantial amount of laughing, good times and cold beer that was being had by the patrons in the VIP area. As another bead of sweat rolled down his face, he wished so much that on a day as nice as this, it was him having a fantastic time and knocking off a few cold ones...

Instead it was the team from Southern Cross Austereo and Ikon who were making the most of the great conditions. The afternoon was rounded out by lunch and a few more beers at the Burleigh Heads Surf Club.

Not a bad way to spend a Saturday.
