A day with lots of training and fun
I really don't understand why Tango isn't tired?! He has had the best day!
We started in the training hall - and did an hour of dog dancing training before work.
I made a small heelwork video of Tango - you can see it here!
And I made several little clips of Gollum too - see them here!
After work I met with Helle and Bodil for some Nose Work training.
It was a big day for Tango! He reacted to the odor alone for the first time! Up until now, he has searched for the odor combined with food. Everytime he finds food, the odor is there too, so eventually the dog will start reacting to the odor because he expects the odor to lead to food. That's how we teach the dog to be interested in the odor we want him to find.
Tango did a small puppy search in the beginning of our training session and then he had a break. One of the hides fell off a rock after the first search, so we removed it. After a break, we put food on the remaining hides and let Tango search again.
And much to my surprise, he stopped by the rock from where the hide had been removed!!!! The smell will stick to the rock for a while after we have removed the hide, so even if there was nothing to see on the rock, the odor would still be there and Tango noticed and reacted to it. Luckily I immediately realised what he was doing, so I rewarded for finding the odor. Clever boy!
This doesn't mean that we will train on odor without food from now on. We will continue the combination of food and odor for a long time. He is still a baby.
Gollum did some excellent searches. We had a great afternoon.
I came home and registered for an online training conference, which is held in January - Clicker Expo Live. Read more here! I am very excited about it.
I have been to 2 Clicker Expos before - one in England and one in Denmark. Due to Covid 19 we get to go again this year without having to travel anywhere :-)
See you tomorrow
