Microbat Nesting Box
The Cooks River is the most altered and polluted river in Sydney, but a lot of people are trying to improve it. It was only after I looked at the image that I noticed the nesting box. It could be for birds, but more likely for the Gould’s Wattled Bat - a tiny, insect-eating nocturnal creature that would normally sleep in tree hollows. The local council is encouraging people living along the river to plant trees and shrubs that are part of its natural habitat.
