A boat in the dyke

The builders wrapped up our flat too... so no more views from my windows for the coming months; as it rained I decided to dig into my files of pictures from Crete, what are in their thousands and I need to order them and pass them from Lightroom to brighten up those that need that. In the extra 2 of the donkey rider we spotted on the road near Elyros, October last... my favs of that day.

As I didn't make a new blip today, two others from yesterday; they're of a statue what's placed along the river Hollandse IJssel in memory of the mayor there, who in 1953 ordered a skipper to move his ship into the dyke that was breaking down under the storm of February from that year. They managed to close the gap with that ship and keep the dyke from collapsing down fully, thus saving the lands behind it from further flooding. The February 1953 storm was a wake up call to the dutch engineers and politicians that the Netherlands must be better protected from the sea; thus the Delta Works were initiated to prevent another such disaster. The land here is quite below sea level, the lowest spot of the Netherlands is near here too -6,76 mtrs.
