Ptarmigan

Many great photos taken this day so it was tough to choose one, but I think it had to go with this little fella. We stumbled upon a group of 4 Ptarmigan whilst descending the mountain, and were amazed by how slow moving they were and reasonably calm in our presence. Speaking to our friend afterwards (a bit of a twitcher) he explained that because they are transitioning to their winter plumage, they aren't able to take flight as easily. 

Quite a contrasted day on the hills to the previous - a gentler walk with many pauses to take in the surroundings and relax in the sun.
