Out of the Competition

In the spring I suggested a family sunflower growing competition. No-one has had an excellent showing but at this week's measuring one of mine was just in the height lead. This sad specimen hasn't even flowered yet and I had, until today, high hopes of it soaring over the other plants. Well that's not going to happen. We can't say we haven't been warned about another summer storm coming our way but honestly.

I've been out for a walk with a most reluctant canine companion. I can't see either of us rushing out again. Instead I'm going to do some baking and cooking. It feels autumnal enough for a leek and potato pie so that'll be tonight's meal.
