Sugar Baby Love
I have a very sweet tooth. I also have Type 2 Diabetes. These two facts may not be entirely unconnected!
Truth be told, just prior to lockdown I was probably eating far too many cakes and biscuits than was good for me. It was all too easy just to pop into Greggs or wherever and grab a tasty cake or cookie on an almost daily basis. As soon as our shopping opportunities became severely restricted after 23rd March, it was time to take a reality check and not succumb to the temptation just to binge on unhealthy food whilst sitting in front of the telly.
So, no cakes or biscuits were allowed in the weekly shop* and as much exercise as permitted was taken.
And it paid off. I not only ended lockdown the same weight as when I entered it, but I had also weaned myself off the regular and excessive consumption of cakes, biscuits and junk food. I’d also taken up running and succeeded in doing a 10K a couple of days before I turned 60.
But I still had my sweet tooth to contend with. The compromise reached was to buy a couple of small bags of jelly babies in the weekly shop and allow myself half a dozen or so each day. Probably still not good for me but it satisfied a craving and stopped the purchase of cakes and biscuits.
All was going well until this week when M&S did not have any jelly babies in stock. And the only alternative I could find was this 1kg bag. In theory this should last me until the second week of September. In practice.......who knows!!!
*well, maybe the odd one or two jumped into the trolley every now and then, when no one was looking!
