Wombat Puzzle

Thank you all again for your hearts and stars of encouragement and your uplifting comments. They are all gratefully received. The Wallbridge fire continues to burn about 15 miles north of us with no containment. We follow the wind direction closely. This morning the sky was almost blue and we dared to be hopeful despite the news that the fire had doubled in size overnight. This afternoon we can't even see the hills across from our kitchen window. We can hear planes and helicopters flying overhead but we can't see them. 

Jim came over this morning to check out the battery situation and after much turning on and off of the power came to the same conclusion as Ali (in much less time). There is a problem with the wiring between the well pump and the critical panel. He showed us how to switch everything except the well circuit to the battery if the power goes out. The irony is that all of this started because we didn't want to be left without water again. Now it is the only circuit that doesn't work. We're still trying to figure out what to do next. It might involve calling in an electrician.

Last week was the worst spike in Covid cases in the county since March.

Thunderstorms are predicted again for tomorrow night. 

I've been too busy looking at fire maps to process the events of the Democratic convention, but I watched Obama's and Biden's speeches. I think the country must be ready for a decent man. As Obama said, "Our democracy depends on it...."
