A capacitor replaced
This is the AC unit which failed a week ago, just before the latest heat event started. Today was the first time we could get someone to pay it attention - not surprising, given the requirement for AC everywhere around. Turned out that a capacitor had failed - an easy replacement, from parts in the van. The image is the test for levels and pressurization of the refrigerant - it's doing OK. So no need for an urgent replacement, which I'd been prepared for. We do have a much better idea of what that would cost, and what it'd cost to put in cooling for the ground floor too.
Now we get to choose closed windows against smoke rather than having to have them open to get draught and cooling. We are getting waves of dirty air - it was mucky in the morning, and cleared out in the afternoon and evening. Purpleair.com has good maps, with people's sensors reporting fine particle particulate matter in bright colors.
