Sorrento House
Carl passed by here (Finnegan's in Dalkey, usually known as Sorrento House) a few days ago on his way back from his big walk (he makes his way up to the Killiney obelisk every day). That brought back memories of wonderful afternoons spent sitting outside here watching the world go by and we agreed to give it a try and see how they were coping with the regulations.
Unfortunately, they aren't doing well. They could implement a one-way system without any difficulty, but haven't, with the result that entry control is very lax. The staff that meet and greet weren't wearing masks (those taking orders and serving food were, but they really should go the whole hog).
We'd met earlier for a site inspection at Carl's house. The builder is making good progress, but there's been another delay with the windows, which won't now be delivered until 26th August (three weeks later than planned). The work was badly affected by the pandemic, of course, which means that a 15-week contract turned into 25 weeks, which is frustratingly long for what's really quite a small job.
Anyway … adding insult to injury, Finnegan's food was very poor (my paté starter was over-peppered and too runny), though it was pleasant to sit and chat and savour a very welcome large bottle of Bulmer's. We won't hurry back.
