Red Star
This is a backblip from yesterday. I spent all day in the field yesterday and the above photo is typical of what I encountered throughout the day - smokey haze and a red sun. This photo does not convey how bright red the sun truly was. And it wasn't sunset - this is about 9am. Everything had an erry reddish cast to it. And everything smelled like an oversized campfire.
The smoke drifting in from the west where there are a number of fires in the mountains, including the one that I told you about the other day. Thankfully, there was no wind. But when I stopped here, and spread out a map on the hood of my car to consult where I was going, within 2-3 minutes there was a very fine covering of ash on the map.
I ended up wearing a N95 particulate mask all day - not because of Covid-19, but because of the smoke.
