Life in a Northern Town

Traumatised

Inspired by The Repair Shop I am having a go at freshening up Gonky.

Gonky will be 55 at Christmas. Well not really, because the original Gonky started to wear out after a couple of years; I wouldn't release my grip on him so my Mum gradually replaced him one piece at a time while I was asleep.

I used to pull at the seam and find a bobble of wool to stroke. It would take me ages to cultivate the perfect bobble, then my Mum thought she was doing him a favour by tidying him up, and she'd cut off the bobble.  What a terrible childhood I had ......

He has lived with me in 10 houses but for the last 15 years or so he has resided in a drawer, wrapped in tissue paper. His foam filling had disintegrated and he's sporting a nearly severed arm but this morning he has been for a soak and is now hanging on the washing line. I am not sure how he will turn out but one thing is for sure, my kids think I'm mental.

One day they'll understand.
