WHW Day 4

The blip was taken early in the morning before the sun came out just as I was starting out from Beinglas Farm, Inveranan. It was a fine day’s walking, an early start on the 6.45 bus to Skye and returning in the afternoon.

I had great company for the first 5 miles so much so that we became distracted and took a miss turn which to rectify involved an exciting river crossing just above the Falls of Falloch. It was probably just as well the river was relatively low, it did demonstrate that my boots due to be replaced on account of the tears that have appeared in the toe are in fact 100% waterproof so clearly the gore-tex layer is not compromised.

The route – Inveranan to Tyndrum was mostly gentle with some short sharp inclines, and I think I could have happily pushed on to Bridge of Orchy had the bus times been different. As it was I arrived at Tyndrum around 2.pm after a few detours to look at the remains of St Fillan’s Priory and the Holy Pool, around 14 miles or so. Much of it was beside water with several potential swimming spots, not doable given I was going to have to sit on a well ventilated bus for at least a couple of hours.

I love walking on the old military road with its Jacobite connotations, although of course they were constructed to benefit General Wade and his Hanoverians.

I had plenty of time in Tyndrum before the bus arrived at 3.20 (only 5 mins late, and we made that up despite a tailback on the A82) – and I indulged in coffee and citrus sponge at the inimitable Real Food Café.
