Diary of an Edinburgher

Pub lunch

The haar was with us this morning, and I thought we were in for another dreich day, but no - it cleared up and as we came home this afternoon, it was positively warmish, and even quite sunny.

The damp start to the day didn’t put Robert off though. He came with his friend, who is Maggie’s (Border Terrier) dad, and the four of them went off for a big Hermitage walk.

In fact, they went a longer walk than usual, but we hadn’t mentioned to Robert that we were going out for lunch, and Archie would need a bath and blow dry. But as time went on, and our departure was imminent, we decided to leave him here, unwashed, with his frozen peanut butter stuffed bone. In fact, he was much happier doing that than standing under a table in a pub.

We went to Greyfriar’s Bobby’s bar, I had a steak and ale pie (which was epic) while the others had fish and chips. It was busy, but well managed, and NO muzak. Brilliant.

We walked home, very slowly - at Rufus’s speed - through the Meadows. This world map ‘installation’ is all higglety-piggeldy. Look closely (go large, then expand) and you will see that the countries have all been renamed. The UK is now Cuba, and we’ve been relocated to Indonesia. Why? I don’t know.
