Bargain box!

A friend from Kirkwall was down this way today and calling by to give us this. A real bargain box of fruit and vegetables from Lidl!

They are all either out of date or from punnets or packs which have had damaged or rotten items in them so are unsalable. Rather than throw in the whole pack away, the still good fruits/veg are boxed up and sold. Today we had mini cucumbers, potatoes, cherry tomatoes, grapes, sweetcorn, peaches, plums, oranges, leeks, onions and a cauliflower - all for the princely sum of £1.50!

The peaches and plums were very ripe so they went straight into a crumble. There's a cauliflower cheese, soup and lots of salads in the offing too!

I don't know if other shops do this, but it's a super idea. Having friends in the town is great, this is the third one she's brought us and she gets fresh eggs in return! Everyone is happy!
