Cupid's Undie Run
The race is about two miles long and is run in one's "bedroom-best" attire on Valentine's weekend -- thus the name, to benefit the Children's Tumor Foundation.
My hat is off to the participants, as temps hovered around the 34 degree mark today, with gusting winds and, even fully bundled up, I was freezing! As you might imagine, this is a young person's race... The race takes the participants along the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court, and the National Capitol building -- surprising unsuspecting tourists but providing lots of fun photo ops (and stories about 'them crazy Americans' to take home...) :)
The Children's Tumor Foundation is the world's largest non-governmental organization dedicated to ending Neurofibromatosis (NF) through research. NF is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body, causing blindness, deafness, learning disabilities and severe chronic pain. Currently, there is no cure for NF and there are frighteningly few treatment options. NF affects roughly 1:3,000 births in the U.S. and is in desperate need of new discovery, which is why 100% of funds raised through Cupid's Undie Run go directly to the Children's Tumor Foundation.
