Life of Tiree

Eagle Man

Brilliant second day of our Gozo holiday. After last night's very high winds, the weather was better than predicted and thankfully no rain and lots of warm-ish sun. As luck would have it, it's carnival time here, nicely co-inciding with Sam's birthday weekend...with the big day being tomorrow.

We took the bus over to Victoria which was much nicer than we expected and on the way to the centre we accidentally joined the back of the carnival parade. It was amazing how much effort had gone into the costumes and routines for such a small island. They must have been preparing all year. This guy was heading up the Eagles and their American-themed sexy-ladies (gangnam-style) - he was on fire. You could see the adrenalin oozing from every pore. This was his moment and no mistaking it. He was ace!

After a few bar snacks, beers and lemonades we explored the citadel (which mainly involved the kids running around re-enacting The Mysterious Cities of Gold which we are still re-enjoying on DVD. We then got another bus down to Xlendi, for a quick visit - a nice walk up the cliff followed by fresh cherry ice cream and then the return journey home (well "holiday-home", apparently we can't call it "home-home" as Spook and Bee and Grandma aren't there).

The day ended in the hot tub on the roof, which we've finally got working, steaming hot under the Gozitan stars, with Summer giving me a top to toe "sparkle treatment" ready for tomorrow's carnival parties and daddy's birthday. I might let her loose on my make up bag tomorrow as a holiday treat :)
