Snappy Snap

This morning we had a two hour drive into the countryside to the temple of Beng Melea. This dates from the 11th Century, predating Angkor Wat and possibly serving as a prototype. It was sadly ransacked first by the Khmer Rouge and more recently by locals for building materials and is quite wild and overgrown but no less atmospheric for that. Like Angkor, it was used as  a setting for the Indiana Jones movies.

After another fantastic lunch in Siem Reap, we were taken to the floating village on Tonle Sap lake, the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia, stretching far further than the eye can see. The villagers, who earn their living through fishing - and tourism - live on boats and floating pontoons. These crocodiles, caught in the lake, are in a pit on a pontoon that houses a cafe and shop. I suspect they may have been on the menu.

In the evening we enjoyed what should have been our last meal as a whole group and a performance of traditional Cambodian dancing. The  official tour finished today but some of us have an extra day or two booked before we are due to fly home.
