Remarkable company lay all about me ... Thackeray, Trollope, Wilkie Collins, Blondin (the tightrope walker), Brunel, most of the British Raj, Charles Babbage (who first thought of 'calculating numerical tables by machinery' in 1812 and so invented the computer) and WH Smith!

A chilly few hours spent with some of the most colourful characters of the Victorian era.
