Deal Beach Fishing Boat
We’d been planning to take Doreen down to the coast at Deal for several days now. Circumstances, ie the weather, got in the way until today when it seemed an ideal day to spend some time at the seaside.
It was some 10c cooler at Deal, 24 as opposed to 34 when we left Maidstone. Not too crowded either. We arrived at high tide so I went for a swim. A steeply shelving beach made it a challenge to get into and out of; once you were in it was fine and very refreshing.
A further walk along the beach before turning inland to walk back along the High Street. Deal was recently rated as one of the best seaside towns in the country. The High Street looked rather run down and with the beach pebbly it didn’t seem to warrant the accolade.
I understand there’s a great history to the place and their guidebook really tries to sell the town. And the fishing boats and accumulated detritus are always good for a blip. This boat seems to be sitting on top of its very own pile of detritus.
We rounded off the afternoon with a Mr Whippy on the seafront which was very much enjoyed. The journey home was rather fraught as we had to make a cross country detour to avoid a long jam on the road from Deal to Dover.
