A day in the life

Last ride

This is my landlord. From the first of September he isn't. I know how hard it has been for him to sell and to say goodbye to his birthplace. Since last summer he has been clearing out everything personal from the barn where he kept furniture, pictures, plates, glassware and other memories from his life on the farm. For many years he has had tenants living in the main house, where I am, while him and his wife has lived in another house some kilometres away while taking care of the remaining small piece of land where he grows potatoes, flowers, strawberries and some vegetables.

Now everything is sorted, thrown away, sold or given away. The thing remaining is the tractor that soon is to be sold too. This is probably the last time he uses it before the new owners take over responsibilities. We talk quite a lot about this and that on the farm, in the world or the workplace we shared for fifteen years. I can tell he is still a bit nervous and sad about leaving as the date is coming closer but he was very happy when he was asked to work as a teacher again at his old school for the next year. That will give him something else to think about and the transition will be easier for him.
