Quality Time
Lockdown drastically altered the pattern of when I saw my children.
The Eldest stayed with her mum for a good few weeks before I saw her in person, the saving grace being that I knew she was safe, happy and comfortable.
With the wee ones, it went the other way and I saw a lot more of them than I would otherwise have done. With ex-2 furloughed, she effectively took the weekday shift and the wee ones came to me every weekend, which has been great.
So, it was a little strange for me today, when they were collected for their week away first thing and a day of no responsibilities loomed (on a Saturday of all things!) and I would otherwise have been at something of a loose end. Fortunately, I had an ace-in-the-hole in the form of The Eldest.
We’ve had some proper quality time together today as we wandered around a sun-bake, thriving Kendal, chatting away, sucking on Berry Smoothies from Costa, munching cake and treating ourselves to bits n pieces. There’s been some nice chill-out time at home too, as evidenced by an afternoon nap in the suntrap that is the backyard.
Even managed to squeeze in a very hot and sweaty run along the way, but I was understandably on my own for that one!
Prior to lockdown, every Thursday, we’d been having a movie night as I introduced her to some classic movies from the past. Resurrecting it, we went for a crime double bill tonight with ‘The Fugitive’ and ‘Inside Man’ – the latter I would admit isn’t a classic, but it is one of my favourites and has a nice twist to it.
In between we found some time to properly cook a nice meal together – gnocchi & chorizo bake – which was absolutely delicious.
Looking forward to seeing what tomorrow will bring!
