Tunnelled Red Lanterns

The city's become quiet, quite literally millions have headed to their hometowns and numerous shops are closed. I even had a text message from DaVinci pizza closed for 5 days... how can I survive...?

In the run up to Chinese New Year aka Spring Festival firecrackers may be heard throughout the day and fireworks are officially banned in large cities. I'm not sure how effective this ban will be it's certainly not easy to buy fireworks anymore.

This time of year is really a time for families and the people in the shot are doing their last bit of shopping before CNY. The shot here was taken in Coastal City in Nanshan have hung lanterns from their pedestrian tunnel, December 2011, just over a year ago they hung bright yellow umbrellas along the tunnel which looked pretty effective at night.
