The Road Less Travelled

The Road North

Walked on Dornoch sands barefoot before breakfast, then after a slightly bizarre Covid Secure version of a luxury hotel breakfast gone not-quite-right we headed up to Forsinard to see the Flow Country. Beautiful and quite deserted. As by that point we were so far North we thought we might as well continue the last 20 miles up the Strath to the North Coast. Apart from a handful of camper-vans the roads were deliciously empty of all the usual NC500 irritants. I know it’s wrong to say it but it’s so nice to have Scotland back to ourselves for a summer!
After a masked shop (first time in a supermarket since Covid) at Thurso Tesco we headed back down the A9 stopping for lunch in a deserted fishing village and then heading over the hills and moors to our extremely remote and slightly dodgy accommodation for the week. Covered the first 1000 miles already in our new car since leaving Essex.
