Maui’s Ropes

In Māori mythology Maui and his brothers wanted to slow down the progress of the sun across the sky. So they snared it with ropes at first light, holding back the speed at which it travelled across the sky. It gave them more time to grow their crops and go fishing.

Maui’s Ropes are of course also known as God’s Rays, or Crepuscular Rays.

As of today it’s 99 days since there was any transmission of Covid-19 from an unknown source within New Zealand.
