Crushed by the Wheels of Industry

...or, if not the actual wheels, some other part of the parcel industry!
I sold a bread maker, via eBay, to a lady in Devon. It was swathed in bubble wrap and put in a stout box, so imagine my annoyance today when the buyer sent this picture showing the damage that had occurred in transit. There are certain carrier companies I won’t use because of previous damaged / lost parcels but I have been quite happy with this one in the past - they delivered a fragile telescope without issues, only a couple of weeks ago.
Obviously I refunded the payment and started a claim for compensation. Not the easiest of processes and I had to rely on the buyer sending me further photos of the damage and the packaging for attaching to the claim. Thankfully she was willing to help and I have now had an email advising my claim is underway and the next stage is for the carrier company to collect the parcel and investigate.
I don’t really hold out much hope of getting anything back - I’m sure they’ll find some way of saying it’s my fault! At the end of the day, it was something we’d inherited anyway so I’m only down the original postage cost, plus a load of hassle for me and the buyer. At least the parcel is being collected so the buyer is not having to dispose of it.
And we did want it out of the house so - in a way - job done!
