Coffee and oranges

I am reading the album we made years ago with my cousin of our grandmother's margin notes in her account book. Those notes make a precious narrative of the years 1913-1918. Only two or three words are needed to tell what happened in the day.

Among them there are some happier notes in March of 1913. A sewing circle of 22 ladies was invited and served "coffee and oranges".  A couple of days later two elderly ladies were also served coffee and oranges.

This is new to me, and we never noticed this at the time with my cousin. My grandmother came from Sweden with her parents. Googling "kaffe och apelsiner" you can find Swedish web sites with pictures of various combinations of coffee and oranges. :-)
