Karijini National Park

Today is cold and wet. Australia is feeling a bit miserable and worried so I wanted to remember something more cheerful.

We towed our off-road caravan east to west across the deserts in the centre of Australia a few years ago. We were heading for the Karijini National Park in the very remote north west of Western Australia. We didn't see a cloud for weeks and it became very hot in the daytime and cold at night. 

Karijini National Park is a vast wilderness area in the Hamersley Range of Western Australia. It covers 627,422 hectares just north of the Tropic of Capricorn. Massive mountains and escarpments rise out of the flat valleys.  Erosion has slowly carved this landscape out of rocks that are over 2,500 million years old.  There are many beautiful gorges and natural pools.

My photos show two of the pools we swam in. The top photo is of Fern Pool and the bottom photo was taken at Fortesque Falls. We clambered down those rocks and had a wonderful swim. Thank goodness we have these memories, and photos, to help us through these times.
