The accidental finding

By woodpeckers

Oh my goodness, food served inside!

Friends from Enfield visited me on their way back to London from Shropshire. I hadn't seen them for about three years, and  it was a great pleasure to meet for lunch. We decided they should not visit our house/garden, so we met near town and went to an Italian bar and restaurant. The food was excellent, and we were surprised that that the bill only came to £17. Turned out all the food was half price because of the Chancellor's deal!

Afterwards we went to another cafe, with a view, for coffee, followed by a spur of the moment walking tour of Stroud . They haven't been here often, in fact the last time we met here, the countryside was in lockdown because of Foot and Mouth disease, and the Queen Mother had just died.

L was my landlady in the 1980s. She and I met in the Rio cinema in Dalston, London, during a showcase of films by women. I mentioned that I was looking for a room to rent, and she said she had one in Stoke Newington. I didn't stay there for long, because the flat was small, but we've kept in touch, thanks to her efforts. That night of the hurricane, in 1987, I  really thought a tree from Stoke Newington Common was going to crash through my bedroom window. If my memory serves me right, I got up and slept in the hall instead. The following day, common and the roads were strewn with fallen trees.

So there were, 37 years later, another disaster...Good to catch up again!
