Duck pirate

I love Wednesday because Wednesday is Twinsday when Dreaming gets to see twins and I get to see fawns. It feels like "fawn" should be both singular and plural.

Back when we all worked in offices and had meetings in person, perhaps 20 years ago, I wanted to thank one of my teams so I bought everyone a pencil-top pirate duck. It was a silly team building/team rewarding gesture.

More than 45,000 people are without power as a result of the storm. We very much appreciate still having power.

My in-laws live in a place where there are lots of trees, trees that fall over in storms and take the power out. Everyone there has a backup generator. Because they were living with Karen's grandmother, who needed electrical equipment, they not only had a backup generator, they had a week worth's of fuel.

A week or so ago the generator was hit by lightning. Some of the parts were fried and had to be ordered.

Last night a tree fell on a power line. They are without power and without backup. They can't go stay with their nearby children because they've had to resume going into the world for work. I have not had to resume going into the world to work so we asked them to stay here. The heatwave has passed though so they are going to try to stay at home.

They also have a bear living in their neighborhood. My mother-in-law began running back when it was dangerous because your uterus might fall out. She loves where she lives partly because it has dirt hills for her to run up. I knew she would still be running but asked if the bear was causing her to change her route. The answer is no, because it is a black bear not a grizzly. :-)
