Life in Sunny Dubai

The light at the end of the tunnel

We've had quite a day today! After getting a couple of things done (like checking the oil levels and tyres and swinging by the exchange house) we finally made it to the East Coast. As it is so hot (the weather app said it was 37 but feels like 53) we travelled there just to have lunch. The car a/c works well so it wasn't too uncomfortable a journey.

After over four months, G got behind the wheel and we chose the old road to get there. I'm so glad I had Googlemaps on as it made me aware of a new road that cuts through the mountains reducing the trip by forty-five minutes. I can't believe no-one has mentioned this to me before. As you can see, there was a tunnel. My blip is of the first one. We hadn't come out of it long when we found ourselves approaching another one! In the end, there were five in all - the shortest being 300 metres and the longest 2.7 kilometres long! I had to post this picture because I was really down last night about the whole situation with COVID and being unemployed etc. etc. etc. The blast in Beirut has helped give a lot of perspective but one can't deny how sad it is watching the news at the moment.

Lunch was at Le Meridien, our favourite hotel on the East Coast. I'm so glad we changed from Saturday to Monday to today. The place was quiet thus giving a feeling of it being safe! We were able to have a very delicious and unhurried lunch.

Back in the car again and we decided to come back via the same road. A new rest area has been built for a dam and G wanted to check it out (see my extra). This is something we definitely have to come back to in the winter. There is a walk as well. :)

We got home just as the great ball in the sky disappeared below the horizon. It's always great to get back to Dubai. It's so much more orderly and finished! Sharjah has some spectacular land and scenery but they lack finishing.

My slide scanner arrived while I was out so I am looking forward to playing with it tomorrow, after G's email gets sent out, of course. GK over and out!
