Melissa
Following on from my Greek Mythology book-listening it was Melissa the honey bee who won the most delicious dish presented at Hera and Zeus's wedding feast. Zeus had promised that anything could be asked of him by the winner. Melissa explained how much hard work was involved in collecting enough nectar to make honey (her dish being the winner), and asked for a weapon to kill anyone who attempted to help themselves to her nectar.
Zeus, being a duplicitous God, was angry at this demand and denied promising anything. He granted the bee a weapon, but it had a sting in its tail - it would be fatal to the bee.
What a bastard. It does not explain scorpions or wasps at all.
A day in the office for a big and overly long meeting of all the senior leadership team. Yawn. There were drinks on a boat on the Thames afterwards and I saw a seal. The highlight of my entire day as well as the early finish.
