Whose what-bar?
Mr Pandammonium wants to pull up the decking now that he’s done all the available concrete.
‘I’ll take my pry bar to it,’ he said.
‘My crowbar,’ I said.
If you look closely, you might see the puff of dust coming up as my crowbar persuades the screws to loosen their grip on the rotten framework.
A pry bar is a small flattish iron bar used in the same way as a crowbar in North America. A crowbar is an iron bar with a flattened end used as a lever. (A jemmy or jimmy is a short crowbar used by burglars to lever doors and windows open. I have no jemmies, although I do have a short crowbar.)
