Life in a Northern Town

Ups and Downs

I was feeling grumpy today; everything I had seen on TV or read online seems to be divisive - people blaming our local lockdown on specific communities, older folk blaming young people for the mess we are in, young people saying older people should shut up and stop whinging  - pretty much everybody believing that the pandemic is caused by someone else. Then my doorbell rang. It was my next door neighbour. Her husband, mid 50s, has died suddenly. Now nothing else seems worth getting grumpy about. Other than the fact I couldn't give her a hug and we can't sit together in the garden tonight with several large bottles of wine to toast a lovely, kind, gentle and funny man.
