Flower-of-an-hour
Flower-of-an-hour Hibiscus trionum is a rarely seen hibiscus, bearing pale green flowers with a crimson, almost black centre, and delicate paper lantern seed pods. Each flower lasts only a day, and often flowers only when the sun shines, but as a fast grower with a prolific blooming potential throughout summer until the first frosts, it’s well worth growing. This flower was on the largest of the few plants I manged to germinate from an oldish packet of seed I found in the spring - not sure how many more I'll get!.
This is one of very few photographs I took on a day based at home, catching up from yesterday's fieldwork and preparing for an early start in the morning, and our first night away this year!
