Closing walls and the ticking clocks
FA Cup Final day. M’boy’s team Chelsea were in the final and a chippy tea with visiting grandparents had been promised. It was all set up nicely…
That was until I ordered one too many fish n chips and despite a promising start, Chelsea fell away to finish defeated 2-1 to Arsenal. We’ll never know if too much fish n chips and the defeat were related….
The rest of the day was made up of a lovely wander over to a place called Simpson Ground Reservoir, which consists of two small reservoirs on the top of a hill. Despite a mainly grey start to the day, there were cracks in the sky, which I was able to capture here and the walk round the reservoirs was a good length for the children, which is based solely on the fact that there was no whinging.
It was so nice to be outdoors, but away from the tourists – I know they’re the lifeblood of the area – and in the natural world, smelling the bracken, listening to the birds in a place with nobody else around. It truly is good for the soul as there is always something beautiful to be found - even if it is just the light through a ratty old dandelion clock.
Picnic lunch & kickabout at Grange followed – some truly amazing goals and saves on display – before returning home to spend some time with aforementioned grandparents. The final kicker was the arrival of the Eldest and giggling our way through more Modern Family after the wee ones were in bed.
Lucky man.
