Nachverpackt: Loot from Home
Our Christmas package arrived today from my brother in the US - in time and attire for Karneval! "Nachverpackt" means "repacked" - which is apparently what the German Post did with our gift. It's not much of a costume, if you ask me :)
Sadly, the original box must have sat somewhere in a rainstorm - the one we received repacked was also soaking wet, with the bottom nearly falling out - probably because they just transferred all the dripping wet contents into a new carton. The cardboard cracker boxes are all trash, but the bags inside seem fine (although a bit crushed).
We peeled the greeting card out of the sopping envelope and pried the pages apart, but the ink had ran and the print was illegible. Otherwise, I presume everything is accounted for... the contents match the original packaging slip in my brother's scrawled hand.
Despite the appearance, it seems these beloved goodies from home are all edible. We now have loads of yummy salty biscuits (as my British friends would call the "crackers" that are unavailable here in Germany) and plenty of semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips for baking cookies. Let the festivities begin! (Now where's the beverage cooler?)
PS: Thank you, trusty Post Office, for getting it all here through the storm it endured!
