Diary of an Edinburgher

Swimming cap success!

I bought a swimming cap at the Commie Pool this morning. I cut quite a dash looked a complete prat, but what a difference that made! My head was warm! And so my body didn't feel cold at all. I was delighted, as I nearly didn't go this morning, as I'd felt so chilled yesterday.

If you wore a swimming cap at the wee local pool, you looked as if you were a professional and should be in a proper pool - most folk didn't wear one, possibly because a lot of them did 'granny swimming' and didn't get their hair wet at all. But everyone at the Commie Pool wears one. Even most of the men. Well, the serious swimmers, anyway.

So I wanted to blip my new hat in all its pinkness. The hat and googles looked a bit silly on their own, so I added the coffee pot, as I like the reflections. I used a new trick that I read in my Camera Manual. In Live View and Manual Focus, you can zoom in x 10 to a small area and make sure it's focussed properly. Cool! As you can see, I went crazy with the water spray again.

I stopped and had a coffee and a scone at the Pool cafe, where you can look down on the pool and study swimming styles. Excellent entertainment. And a rather good scone. Though no bacon baps.

I saw Tilda Swinton today on the bus. It's not unfeasible, as I've seen John Byrne in the neighbourhood lots of times. She got off at my stop, and walked down the road on the other side. Sometimes Tilda can look super glamourous, and sometimes she can look like she's been pulled through a hedge backwards (a saying of my mother's that I think I heard quite often). Today she was neither. Just a woman on a bus, minding her own business... I was going to just shout quietly (more a stage whisper) 'Tilda!' But if she looked over, I'd feel silly. And if she didn't, I'd feel silly. I'm sure it was her.

It's a lovely day, and I had contemplated taking a wander, but I'll just potter about at home and do some of my online shopping eg for a new stand for my Speedlite, Gorillapod and shoulder strap for my camera. You can't get these things in shops.

EDIT: I replaced the original, steam-less photo. I checked out a YouTube video on how to add steam. So I added it. Would have been easier to just make a coffee in the first place.
