Eastern Ringed Xenica butterfly
(Geitoneura acantha)
I have been trying to get one of these for a few days - very flighty little butterflies! The undersides of their wings are almost as pretty as the top sides, which are the same pattern but in richer coppery colours. Smaller than the Common Brown and more often found in the bush than gardens (in my limited experience anyway). I only find them in the part of my garden that backs onto bushland.
Bigger patterns
It's getting late in the season and judging by its tatty wings, this butterfly looks like it's had a few near misses with predators!
