Wet, Wet, Wet!

Today was mostly a rest day...it was too wet to do much else! After a hearty breakfast we drove to the bottom of the peninsula and up the side of Loch Striven...views were very restricted through mist and rain. We parked up to read our books and had a picnic lunch. Thankfully the mist cleared and by mid afternoon the rain had ceased. This evening we drove around the top of Holy Loch and up Loch Long and across Sligrachan to Loch Eck where we parked up and cooked tea.

Loch Striven was used during WW2 for training X-Craft midget submarine crews and also for test of Highball, a smaller version of the Barnes Wallis bouncing bomb, Upkeep, used to destroy the Ruhr dams in 1943. There is still an MOD facility here used as a diesel and aviation fuel storage depot for the Royal Navy and NATO vessels. RFA Tiderace (A137) was docked today...a Tide-class replenishment tanker recently returned to sea for trials after a revamp in Liverpool. (Extra)

There was very restricted entry at Knockdow Estate...though nothing restricting you from entering! By the state of the gate lodge I think there was an “n” missing from the sign! Apparently the estate is owned by the son of one of Putins KGB comrades.

Thanks to 60plus and Skeena for hosting Mono Monday this month. I’m also entering it at Derelict Sunday...thanks to Marlieske for hosting.
